A letter arrived in the mail today from the American Quilters Society, Happy Scrappy was accepted into the American Quilters Society show this summer in Grand Rapids Michigan. I think the last time I entered a quilt in the American Quilters Society show was at least a dozen years ago. The fact that the show is coming to our home town for the next three summers is absolutely amazing. I am looking forward to the show and catching up with a lot friends in the quilting world.
Rebecca Haarer, an antique dealer in Shipshewana Indiana that specializes in quilts brought a antique quilt to the last dear Jane gathering. It was a smaller quilt, around 60 in.². I remember Gay Bomers, Carla Jolman and I laid on the floor studying the quilt for over an hour. We were just drawn in by the scrappiness of the quilt and the fabrics. Gay took home the quilt, I took home the inspiration from the quilt. I sat down to design what I ended up calling Happy Scrappy. It is a large quilt, approximately 100 x 117. It has over 2500 pieces. It was beautifully quilted by my friend, Tammy Finkler, she just adds so much beauty to the surface of the quilt. It was such a fun project to work on, it has over 2500 pieces and is a great way to use up your scraps. The pattern will be available sometime next month.
Have a wonderful day stitching,
