Life has been busy here, my father has been in hospice the last six weeks and I go and visit every morning. It is hard to see the changes in him every day. Every day of our lives is such a special gift, there are always so many blessings in it.
Summer is in full swing here, with a heat index today it should be over 100. It was a great spring, right outside my quilt room window a mother Robin decided to choose my Sgt. Crabtree as where she was going to build her nest. I was able to watch her lay four eggs and watch the mother and father feed those robins for a couple of weeks. The baby robins left the nest last week. One day even I was out side protecting them as a squirrel had gotten into the tree and was trying to get into the nest. I’ve never seen that before. The squirrel went right at the babies robins. I ran out there with that broom and never saw him again. I imagine my neighbors wondered what I was doing out in the front yard screaming into the tree with the broom. This is the second time that they have chosen my little tree, it is so wonderful to have such a close-up view of the whole process.
I have been working on a special project lately, matter-of-fact I am working on two Phebe quilts at the same time. I am not sure when I have ever worked on two of the same quilt, the quilt was designed by Di Ford in Australia. I think that every once in a while a quilt comes along that is just so special and this definitely is one of those quilts. I have had a lot of fun working on the project and it has been a gift to be able to do appliqué. It is a slow process but a wonderful one. I just love the fabrics, most of the fabrics are from older collections about 10 years ago but they just make the quilt sing.
I hope that you find something really special to work on the summer, I know that summertime is busy but in those quiet moments of the day may you find those moments to just take a couple of stitches.
