Happy New Year,
We have our first big snow storm of the season here, started on New Year’s Day. It is always exciting when the new year starts because we think of all the old projects as well as some of the new projects that we want to start. This year I picked about five things that I either want to start or finish. Last year was really busy for me, it seems like I spent most of my time working on the Civil War Anniversary Book and then I jumped right into the World War II quilt book. The Civil War book should be released in April and the World War II book should be out sometime in October. The publishing company made some changes to the cover of the Civil War book, this is what the cover will now look like.
I actually picked out five projects that I really want to focus on this year, going to start the Lancaster diamonds, I am really looking forward to working on the project. I have just really admired the antique version of the quilt and just cannot wait to get started. I love the colors of the original quilt and I’m going to try to choose colors and fabrics somewhat similar. Celebrated the new year by ordering a couple of fabric collections, the Crimson bouquet and I ordered some colonies to use in my diamonds. Plenty of new fabric to use this coming year, along with what is already in my closet.
The houses was another project, I think the houses are just going to be a lot of fun especially because they are foundation pieced easily together. I made seven of them yesterday, fun picking out the fabrics.
Found this really neat website, Jeaneke’s houses, they’re going to work on making a house block every single day during near 2012. 366 blocks, thought it might be kind of a fun project. There is a pattern on her website or you can do your own pattern . I thought it would be Fun and easy to draw up some foundation houses , Would not take very long to put them together all, I think I could easily put one together in 15 min., the thing is to use up all your scrap fabrics. I have been drawing Houses in electric quilt and I drew up 25 houses to start with. You can find my electric quilt file on my website if you want to foundation piece some houses. There is also a PDF file of eight houses. My houses are going to be beach houses and I’m using Kaffe Fassett fabrics, not going to make one every day but just sit down when I feel like it and make houses.
One of the other projects that I want to finish this year is my dear Jane, it is my second one. I have been saying that for the last couple of years and this year I’m really motivated to finish it. The first one I didn’t do the triangles and I always felt like I didn’t complete it. Started another one with 1930s fabrics,
Enlargened the quilt so it will finish 124 in.², I started with the triangles this time and finish those first so no I only have four rows of blocks to do so that is very doable.
I finished my swap blocks For Shipshewana over the holidays, I had to make six sets each containing nine blocks. Our theme is red and white. It fits in perfect with another project I’m starting.
There is a free red and white project that Gay Bomers and Brenda Papadakis are offering for the year, patterns and instructions are posted on the following website http://sentimentalstitches.net/
I can’t forget my cheddar stars and hexagons, that is project five. I just think that with having five different projects, going to keep them in the
baskets out and ready, so I can just pull which one I want to work on that day, who knows how many will get finished out of the five but then that really
doesn’t matter, having all the fun does.
I hope that you all find some time to stitch today and relax and plenty of time to work on something special this year.
Have a wonderful New Year full of love, peace and plenty of stitching,
