As I have turned on the television this weekend, I have been so moved by the tribute and the beautiful memorials that have been built to remember those that lost their lives on 9/11. I think if we think back, we can all remember where we were when this tragedy happened.
My oldest daughter was married that weekend, she flew to Mexico for a honeymoon. I left Michigan with four of my quilting friends for a quilt getaway. We were in Shipshewana on that Monday when the tragedy struck. We were in a peaceful Amish community, one of the most peaceful places there is. It was so hard to comprehend , we all felt so helpless. I went to the fabric store that afternoon and bought some red white and blue fabrics. I wanted to make a special quilt to remember the loss that our country had just experienced. I remember bringing the quilt home and hanging it outside for a while.
I am not sure sometimes what I would be doing if I didn’t quilt, Quilting has not only brought me many wonderful memories, many great friends, many beautiful quilts and a great fabric stash, but it brings me peace. There is nothing like sitting down at the sewing machine and just stitching.
I hope that this special day of remembrance brings you all peace.
