It probably seems like a weird title for a blog post, but yesterday was one of those days, not an “0” birthday but my speed limit birthday, yesterday I turned 55 years old. I was trying to think of a really special place to celebrate my 55th so I chose to go to one of my favorite places, Shipshewana, Indiana which is about a two-hour drive from my house. It is a very quiet Amish community, one of the biggest draws of the community is a large flea market that is held there during the summer months on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. That was our first stop, not only is there a wonderful farmers market, but rows and rows of booths selling everything imaginable, this year I thought there was a lot of wonderful antiques and garden ornaments.
One of the biggest draws for me is the wonderful quilt shops that are there, Lollys is such a homey shop, there is something in every corner to see. Plenty of ideas and beautiful fabrics everywhere. It is a place that you could spend an entire day, it seems like you can go back and see something you didn’t see before.
Yoders Department Store is another one of our favorite stops, they just went through a large remodeling and addition, plenty of new fabric, the lighting is really great and the shop has plenty of room to move around, they even have a special spot that you could sit and read magazines and books.
It was wonderful day and a wonderful place to be. Speaking of fabric, I know that I have talked a lot about shirtings lately, it seems like I can just not find enough of them. I seem to have quite a stash of them growing in my closet. These are a collection I just recently bought, they are called farmhouse blues. I actually was lucky enough to find some more yardage of some of them at Lollys in Shipshewana.
Another wonderful collection of fabrics that I just love is the new Dear Jane II collection. I really like the colors of the prints and the toiles. This time the collection not only comes with a preprinted block panel but also a preprinted triangle panel. It is a really new collection just released, I did not find this in the stores but I found it on the dear Jane website.
Have a wonderful evening, hope you find some time this holiday weekend to get some stitching time.
