We still are having a winter wonderland here in Michigan, snow continues to fall, this is a picture of my backyard. We are expecting some more snow tonight, that’s what happens when you live in Michigan:)
I have been really busy trying to do some research for the next Civil War book, it definitely takes away from my stitching time. So far it has been a very interesting process, I have acquired the use of some really interesting Civil War material, one diary in particular. I have spent a good deal of time the last two weeks looking for a photograph of the diary author, I have talked to a lot of interesting people along the way, it amazes me how some facts change and some things that people thought always were, really were not.
I have found the time to purchase some more fabrics. I guess I don’t have a particular fabric company that is my favorite, they all are my favorite. I have recently discovered how much I really like shirting, I really like the Jo Morton shirting, I like how they are different shades of color and the fact that the designs are small and they are perfect to go with small blocks or in a small quilt.
This group of shirting is called devon shirting, I had to order the entire collection. Someday they will make a beautiful star quilt. To me the fabrics are so true to the 1890s. The fabric companies seem to make us such beautiful fabrics to use.
I know that some of you know my New Year’s resolution was to
see if I could go all year and not by any fabric , at least I made it one month.
This group of fabric is called Little pink stars, it was made by Margo from reproduction fabrics. She currently is working on a second collection to go with the first. Someday this also is going to make a beautiful star quilt. For some reason I have just been thinking stars.
I know that you’re probably thinking, that I probably order a lot of fabric and that I have a huge stash. This is a picture of my fabric closet. Little messy now and I really think that I have a lot of fabric. It seems to work out just fine for me, sometimes it takes me forever to pick out the right fabric. I think if I had more fabric it would just take me longer to go through them all:)
This is my new shelving unit in my sewing room, my sewing room is approximately 10 ft.², I keep my projects in the baskets. If I want to work on a certain project that day, all I have to do is pull out the basket. It works great for me and it makes me feel like I have a studio because of the organization. It has been a wonderful addition and works good in a small room.
Last but not least, I am working on the lollipops quilt with Kaffee Fassett fabrics. Everyone that sees this cannot believe that I am using these fabrics. I love them. If you would’ve told me 10 years ago or even last year that I would be using these fabrics, I would’ve thought, I don’t think so. Sometimes it is wonderful to think out-of-the-box and use different fabrics.
Next week I will be posting two more 6 inch blocks, a Baltimore block, two nursery rhyme patterns and the next flower garden pattern. Enjoy your weekend, if you have any questions, please e-mail me any time.
