Good Morning,
A years worth of Civil War blocks, Saturday mornings, going to miss those.
For the past year on Saturday mornings, the first thing that I would do is I would grab my iPad which sits on my dresser by my bed and see what Civil War block Barbara Brackman would have for us to do that day. I would read the wonderful Civil War history that she provided and figure out how I was going to put the Civil War Block together.
I am not sure how many thousands of people worked on those blocks on Saturday mornings, I belonged to a subgroup of some wonderful quilters and we would post every Saturday, sometimes we would race to see who would get the block finished first. It was such a wonderful thing to share, it was fun to watch everyone’s progress on their blocks, it was great to see their pictures and the colors of fabric that they chose.
My Civil War quilt is finished. I have finished the last three or four blocks early, I was very honored that Barbara Brackman asked me if she could use my quilt for her Next publication. Yes, she is working on a book based on the blocks we did on Saturday, the tentative title of the book is Civil War Quilt Block Book: Fifty Patterns to Recall Our History. It is expected to be out in the spring of 2013.
Barbara is also releasing a beautiful line of Civil War fabric, it is just hitting the stores.
I absolutely love the grays and blues, my photographs don’t do it justice. Check out the Moda website or one of Barbara’s blogs.
The little flags are so cute and I love the cotton.
For those of you that have been working on the blocks this year, please make sure to leave a comment on Barbara Brackman’s blog and tell her thank you. I know it was a lot of work and I just have appreciated the history and the blocks so much. Thank You Barbara Brackman, for providing us with so much knowledge, history, quilt block patterns, and enjoyment this past year on Saturday mornings.
Happy stitching,
Rosemary

Such a beautiful quilt! Love quilts with these fabrics, and hope to maybe one day make one like this. Love it!
Happy sewing!
Thank You… Barbara and Rosemary… You have both really inspired me to pursue my quilting goals… and to get the Dear Jane book (soon software also) and tools, and many Moda and other fabrics to be more authenic looking blocks that reflect the 1800′s. Keep inspiring me weekly. It is keeping me going in the right direction. My projects use fewer blocks than a quilt… accents that are lifting my spirit and home decor. Remembering our country’s heritage of courageous people doing what they believed in. . . knowing we’d be living here in America and appreciate their efforts…and I do.
Felicitaciones por el Amor que le ha puesto a esta Labor propuesta por BB’ Civil War. Expresa los sentimientos del Pueblo. Desde Venezuela Con Gran Cariño y Admiración.
I love your quilt! I have also enjoyed sewing these blocks, although am quite far behind. I intend to catch up over the holidays.
How fantastic! I didn’t know there was a “sub group”, or maybe I would have joined. Could you please tell me about the wonderful border fabric? Where could I buy it?
Stunning, Lovely Civil War Quilt. Look forward to seeing it in the book and making the blocks.
Have a super great sewing and stitching day.

Hello from Canada, Yes, we have been following this quilt over the many weeks and I too would be excited to open my computer on Saturday morning to see the new posting. What dedication! Sure hope you can keep it up and do something for 2012. I am so anxious to see it finished it will be one of my first projects in the New Year
That turned into a very nice quilt.
The quilt is stunning. I have also enjoyed doing the blocks each Saturday and have used a cheddar sashing and inner and outer borders. The middle border is a ‘sawtooth’ pattern using reproduction fabric charm squares.
Absolutely stunning! Great job, I hope to get mine done, maybe when the book comes out!
I, too, am part of the Flickr group on Sat. mornings. I am also from Michigan. I just wanted to tell you that I needed 12 more blocks to complete my setting of this quilt. I turned to both of your books, the civil war diary book and the civil war love letter book for most of the extra blocks. Those blocks may come up on Flickr as well when I get a chance to post them. Your quilt looks great wonderful.
Hi All……….I have kept up with all the blocks. I am planning on making two twin size bed quilts and all the blocks will be different but the sashing and borders will be the same. I am also thinking about putting my blocks on point! I have had a great time doing this project!!!
I just fell in love with the Barbara’s whole sense of history and quilting all rolled into one. Being Canadian does not stop me from learning more history about my southern neighours. It has been a wonderful journey and a new experience for me.
Isn’t that the truth, I do miss those Saturday blocks …… but will remember that a book is coming. Your quilt is wonderful and FINISHED can’t be beat.
Rosemary — I have finished my Civil War blog quilt and will try to send you a picture of it. Thanks for sharing.
